U-Drive Valley of the Thundergod Thor
Self drive super jeep tour with glacial hiking on Sólheimajökull.
Trip difficulty ranges from 2 - 3 out of 5 possible.
The
lovely but rugged nature of this valley offers a unique blend of
glaciers, looming cliffs and low birch trees, not to forget the glacial rivers you will
have to cross with a super jeep to get there. On the way to
Thorsmörk we drive through the districts where old Icelandic Viking
Sagas took place, visit the grand waterfall Seljalandsfoss and
stop at the spectacular gorge Stakkholtsgja. Driving over gravel roads
and crossing various rivers you drive into the glacier valley Thorsmörk
where we will eat a packed lunch in the breathtaking surroundings.
Before
we
head back to Reykjavik we stop at the frozen glacier tongue of is
Sólheimajökull. There we will explore the glacier and I mean really,
really explore the glacier! We will provide you with crampons and all
the necessary glacier gear. We will take a walk on the glacier and
experience the spectacular surroundings. It is an otherworldly scene,
rugged, raw and ever changing hub of ancient frozen water.
On this trip you get to see and do what most of the population will only dream about and very few ever try.
