ATV (Quad bike) and lava caving combination winter day tour in the
Bláfjöll area, available from Reykajvík city.
Trip difficulty 2 out of 5 possible.
A short 25 minute drive from Reykjavík city center we will find
our 700 cc Yamaha Grizzly Quad bikes waiting at our base at the foot of
Hellisheiði plateau. There we give you a short security talk and show
you how the bikes function. From there we head out on a two to three
hour ATV bike trip along the mountains and through the amazing lava
fields of the Blue Mountains. Driving these powerful machines
through the lava fields is a great way to explore the hills and
mountains on the outskirts of the Reykjavík city. Half way through our trip we
will stop at the Leiðarendi lava cave and descend into the hidden depths
of the Tvíbollahraun lava field.
Exploring this magnificent lava cave and discovering the marvels created by a volcanic crater more than 2000 years ago is an enjoyable and exciting exploration. The Leiðarendi cave is a perfect example of an Icelandic
lava tube and is located in one of the most active volcanic areas in
the world. We will walk and crawl on our travel underneath earth´s
surface. When we emerge from the underworld we will enjoy a packed lunch
before starting our off-road trip back to the ATV base camp.
