Landmannalaugar Highland Paradise

Two day super jeep winter expedition to Landmannalaugar Hot Springs in the Icelandic Central Highlands via the Golden Circle, overnight at the highland chalet in Landmannalaugar. Also includes a glacier walk at the Sólheimajökull glacier and a tour of the South Coast.

Trip difficulty 3 out of 5 possible.

Your trip begins with a pick up from your accommodation in Reykjavík and briefing about the adventures that lie await us over the next two days. From Reykjavík we will head towards Þingvellir National Park, the founding place of the Icelandic parliament, believed to be the oldest one in the world that is still operating. The park also offers great natural beauty and spectacular views over the plate boundaries of the continental plates of America and Europe. The rift valley and it´s canyons that accompany it make a unique sight along with the largest lake in Iceland, the shimmering, deep blue Þingvallavatn. From the lakeside we head over the mountain range of Lyngdalsheiði and onwards to the Geysir Hot Springs to see the active Strokkur spout up a column of super heated water. Only 10 minutes drive from Geysir we´ll find the Golden Waterfall, Gullfoss, pounding into the vertical glacier river canyon of the Hvítá River. After lunch at Gullfoss we drive over the river at the Brúarhlöð canyon and up to the central Highlands through the historical Þjórsádalur valley. On our way we will stop at Háifoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s highest waterfalls and Þjóðveldisbær, a completely restored Viking house, before powering into the highlands and onwards to the Landmannalaugar Hot Springs.

Our second adventure packed day will start with highland drive from Landmannalaugar, we will pass Hekla Volcano and drive along the Eyjafjallajökull Glacier to the black sand beaches of Sólheimajökull outlet glacier. On the glacier we will hike on the ice with the help of appropriate safety equipment. We will  even try to ice climb on the towering ice walls of this strange natural phenomena. On our way back to Reykjavík we will stop at the powerful Skógafoss waterfall and walk behind the unique Seljalandsfoss waterfall. After all the action we will head back towards Reykjavík but not before stopping at Eyrarbakki where we will dine on exquisite North Atlantic lobster at a sea side restaurant.

We should be in Reykjavik around 18:30-19:30 depending on your choice of activity, weather and conditions.
