An Overnight Combo Trip from Reykjavík, taking you horseback riding
and
river rafting in Skagafjörður, North Iceland.

This super fun adventure combines a classic Icelandic countryside
experience with an adrenaline pumping activity. Only a five hours bus
ride from Reykjavík and one and a half hour bus ride from Akureyri
you´ll find yourself located far far away from the hustle and bustle of
urban life, embraced by mountains, farmlands and fresh air.
The first day starts with a bus ride out of town in the morning. When
you arrive in
Skagafjörður you´ll be picked at the bus stop and taken to lunch. The
adventure of the day will be two hours horseback riding excursion
through the
farmlands around Varmahlíð. You´ll ride on rather soft ground at a pace
that suits your skills and along the way you can enjoy the environment.
Some say that horseback riding is the best way for nature observation.
The Icelandic horse is a
wonderful
creature and you´ll probably be surprised by its good temper and fun
attitude. It´s small but very strong and is famous for it´s five gaits,
the fifth being tölt, smooth as a sofa. After the horse riding adventure
you´ll have some time to enjoy an evening in the peaceful countryside.
Early morning the second day we´ll get ready for rafting. We´ll prepare
our day and gear up at our
boathouse and then drive to the put in at the East Glacier River. There
we´ll
go through highly important safety matters, necessary for everyone to be
aware of on the
river during the trip. When everything is ready we´ll head off into the
magical mystery tour of the canyons of The Beast of The East. The river
trip it self takes approximately four hours and is loaded with fun the
whole time.
After the rafting when everyone is warm and dry again we offer a
typical Icelandic barbeque buffet at our boathouse, Hafgrímsstaðir. The
meal consists of
some mouth watering Tex-Mex
lamb chops, baked potato with BBQ butter, flame grilled mushrooms with
blue cheese stuffing, flame grilled red onions, potato salad, cold
slough, Icelandic BBQ salad, fresh salad with feta cheese and soda to
drink. For desert flame grilled bananas with chocolate
stuffing and whipped cream. You´ll surely deserve it after the day´s
adventure.
A bus will take you back to Reykjavík or Akureyri in the afternoon.

Price includes: Bus fare from BSI bus terminal in Reykjavík, Horse
riding
tour in Skagafjörður, One nights stay in a guesthouse in Varmahlíð,
River rafting on the East Glacier River,
BBQ dinner after the rafting trip and bus fare back to Reykjavík.
Accommodation is in a guesthouse or cottages close to our rafting
basecamp at Hafgrímsstaðir. You need to take care of all meals yourself
except for lunch both days.
Departing from Reykjavík: Bus leaves from BSI bus station in
Reykjavík at 08:30 in the morning and arrives in Varmahlíð in
Skagafjörður at 13:25. The next day the bus leaves from Varmahlíð bus
stop at 18:25 and arrives in Reykjavík at 22:55.
Departing from Akureyri: Bus leaves from Akureyri main bus
station at 08:30 in the morning and arrives in Varmahlíð at 09:55. You
have the chance to swap a bus there and go to Glaumbær, Skagafjörður
Heritage Museum and back until the horseback riding trip starts at
13:25. The next day the bus leaves from Varmahlíð at 21:55 and arrives
in Akureyri at 22:55.
