Super jeep self drive sightseeing & activity tour available
directly from Reykjavík city. Combines a visit to the highlights of the
Golden Circle, some mountain track driving and river rafting on Hvítá
river.
Trip difficulty ranges from 2 - 3 out
of 5 possible.
We take course to the East towards lake Þingvallavatn, Iceland´s biggest
natural lake. There we stop to visit the Þingvellir National Park
where you can eyewitness a rift valley where two continental plates have
been
drifting apart for thousands of years. The place is also historically
very important since Iceland´s first parliament was established in the
middle in the rift valley in the year 930. It is believed to be the
oldest continually operating parliament in the world. At this place
Icelanders celebrate all major events occurring in the country´s
history. It is the only UNESCO‘s
cultural world-heritage site in Iceland. From there we drive a track
which lies behind the picturesque Skjaldbreid shield volcano, and after
about a two
hours drive on the rough trails we get back to
normal paved roads again.
Drumbó river rafting base camp is our stop for lunch and afterwards a
great rafting
trip on the Hvítá river. It is a beautiful river running through a
picturesque canyon, with fun rapids and a great optional cliff jump.
After the rafting trip, showers and sauna are at hand before going on
the road
again.
From Drumbó we go to visit the famous natural wonders of Gullfoss
waterfall
and Geysir hot springs before driving back to Reykjavik.
